Green Chile Gravy!

So, this weekend Mom and Dad came up and helped us put a garden in.  (THANK YOU DAD).  We ended up cooking out with them and Aunt Kathy and Uncle Shum.  Chicken fried steak, potatoes and green chile gravy.  MMM!

So yesterday we decided we had not had our fill and cooked it again at our house.  I must say I made some incredible gravy.  Even Jax thinks Dad cooks better than Mom!

Changes!

Well it has been a long time since I was on my blog. Things have changes significantly for the Sherwood clan.

We moved to Snowflake about 1 month ago. It has been a great blessing for us to not have to travel back and forth to Gilbert every other week. We are enjoying our new home, (and actively looking for a pellet stove)

It has snowed twice since our move 2 weeks ago we got about 18 inches in Snowflake. Tonight about another 4 inches. Trish is not so sure about the Snowflake gets less snow that Pinetop thing.

We are anxiously awaiting Christmas. About a month ago we were at Costco, and Jaxon saw a very large YELLOW Harley Davidson. "Daddy one of those" Dad: "you better start with a YELLOW bike" Jax: "okay"

Anyway, that is all that Jaxon has talked about; and asked Santa for. Hopefully Santa will pull through for him!

May everyone have a Merry Christmas, and enjoy the holidays. May Heavenly Father bless all of us to have His Spirit with us more often, and the strength to be more like him!

A Sad Week.

This week was hard for me. I had to spend the week alone in Taylor for work, while Jax and Trish were at home. I really hate it when we are seperated. I hope that something will happen soon that will allow us to move closer to my work and be together as a family all the time.

Secondly, my mission president was buried this week in Utah. I have found myself in quiet reflection quite often this week reflecting on his counsel and the time that I had the opportunity to serve with him while assigned as his executive secretary on my mission. I will sorely miss knowing that he is still alive and there to counsel me as needed. I have had the opportunity over the last couple of years to visit he and his wife at their home in Springville. I have always found him welcoming and interested in my progress in life and in the gospel. I miss these annual/semi-annual visits with him, but know that he hit the ground at a full lope upon his passing.

In retrospect?!

Okay, so I know that it has been a while since I have posted anything. The last several months have been really trying for me personally.

I recently was reading the biography of Spencer W. Kimball. As I look back at my life and compare it to that of a prophet, it is really disheartening. I read how he felt so inadequate in his calling/life. If he feels that way, then where am I?

Had the opportunity to spend time that the C.J. Sherwood reunion. It was good to see my cousins, and their families. To share stories, and hear of their successes and trials. I am thankful for the heritage that I come from. Hope someday that I can live up to it.

We are family!

This weekend was a big weekend for us as a family. We went to the Mesa AZ temple on Saturday, and were sealed as a family for time and all eternity. What a great blessing this was for us. Jaxon looked so cute in the white suit that we bought him! (I will post some pictures when we get them from the photographer)

It was great to have our family around. We were especially grateful to have Troy and Julie (Trish's sister and brother in law) here for the occassion. We were also grateful to have Dr. Wright and his wife Patty with us to share in the joy. We are so thankful for all of our friends that supported us. Thank you all for your love and support. A BIG SPECIAL THANK'S TO ANGELA AND BRANDON LUNT. You have done so much to help our family over the past months. We are so grateful to have you in our lives.

Finally, we want all of our family to know how much we love them. They have been so good to us over the past months. My parents, sister Becky especially have helped us so much over the past few months. Family is truly a blessing to our lives.

It seems like the holidays go by so fast! It was so fun having a littlte boy to buy for and watch on Christmas day. We took family pictures this year for Christmas. Special thanks to my sister Becky for all the great pictures.

Then and now.

This week I have been amazed as we looked over pictures that we have taken of Jaxon over the last 5 1/2 months. It is so amazing to me to see how this small bundle of joy has grown into such a beautiful happy little boy. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I am everyday grateful for my opportunity to have such a blessing in our home!

Jury Duty!

You have to love our legal system, and the attorneys/judges that run it. I got summoned for jury duty last week. Really not my favorite thing to do. Last time I got summoned I wore a glock t-shirt and took American Handgunner to read. (I was dismissed within 2 hours).

Called last night to verify that I needed to show up today. So I went to the Gilbert Municipal court. Checked in by 8:15 as instructed, and then sat and waited. After about 2 hours of waiting the judge comes in and tells all 50 of the summoned potential jurors that they could leave. Apparently the "key witness" didn't bother to show up for court.

It scares me that so many of our elected officals in Washington want to reform our healthcare system, but can't even manage the government that we have now effectively!

The start of solids!

Jax started solids today. We had tried about a month ago, but he wanted nothing to do with it. This time it was different. He went after it. (mainly he wanted to hold/play with the spoon) It was a fun afternoon of feeding and cleaning him up. I will have to post some pictures when I get a chance!

A kid at Christmas!

Today I have felt a little bit like a kid at Christmas. Trish had a bunch of errands to run so Jax and Dad got to hang out. Unfortunately, he wanted to eat and go right to sleep right after Trish left. So I have found myself going in to check on him repeatedly, hoping that he will hurry up and wake up so we can play. Remind me of being a kid at Christmas time because I can remember everyday checking the tree and hoping it would hurry up and get here.

Two milestones complete!

The last 10 days have been a very busy time at our home. We had our severance hearing for Jaxon on 10/13/09. It was really stressful to see if anyone would show up at the hearing to try and claim parental rights to him, but no one did! All parental rights were severed, and we signed the final adoption petition yesterday. Now it is just down to a hearing to finalize the adoption, and we are temple bound!

I have contemplated that events of the last 5 months alot lately, and especially that day (5/29/09). I am still completely in shock the way that things happened, but have gained a new and personal testimony that the Lord does listen to prayers, and has a special interest in each of our lives personally. I am so grateful for our little Jax. The joy that he has brought into my life can't be explained.

General Conference

What a wonderful General Conference weekend. I especially enjoyed Elder Holland's remarks in the Sunday morning session. What a strong witness of the restored Gospel. I feel that my batteries have been recharged and am ready for the coming week.

How fortunate we are to have a living prophet on the earth today. I am personally grateful for the guidance and counsel that we are able to receive at conference time. I am not always good and applying it to my life, but still thankful for the guidance.
Can there be anything more rewarding than the laugh of your child? Jax had his first belly laugh this week. It was so loud and funny that I couldn't stop laughing for almost an hour! He is still a little bit reserved about giving up a laugh, but they are well worth it!

Here we go!

Well, I have sat back and watched as many of our friends and family have started to blog. It has been rewarding to participate in your lives (somewhat) by reading about your success, frustration, happy and sad times. So I figured it was time for us to join the revolution, and start a blog so we might share some of our happiness with you!
